Kamala

Kamala Beach

A long, gently curving bay on Phuket’s west coast, with soft sand, calm water in the dry season and local life that still moves at its own pace. It is the beach closest to Kamala Beach Estate, and the easiest way to begin a day.

Best months

November to April, when the sea is usually calm and clear.

Swimming

Shallow and gentle in high season. From May to October, check the flags.

Facilities

Sunbeds in four designated zones, restrooms near the centre, lifeguards in high season.

From the airport

About 40–45 minutes by car.

One bay, three moods

Where to spend your time

The northern end is wide and peaceful, good for long walks and quiet swims. A few beach clubs, such as Café Del Mar, sit here but blend into the background.

The centre is the busiest part of the bay, with sunbeds, restaurants and, in season, parasailing and other water sports.

The southern end, below the headland where the estate sits, has a more local feel: fishing boats, simple seafood stalls and quiet sunsets. Some of the best everyday Thai food in Kamala is found here.

What to do

Easy days by the sea

Swim in warm, shallow water, rent a longtail boat to explore the coast, or simply find a tree to sit under. Horse riding along the sand is offered in season.

Many locals skip the beach clubs at sunset. They sit on the sand with a drink from the minimart and watch the sky change. It is one of the nicest free things to do in Kamala.

On Fridays, the local market brings fresh food, fruit and a real slice of village life. Wat Baan Kamala, the village temple, is an easy walk from the beach.

When to go

Seasons and sea conditions

High season, November to April: calm seas, sunny skies and all services open. This is the best time for swimming.

Green season, May to October: fewer visitors, lush landscapes and passing showers. Some days bring rough seas, so always respect the red flags and ask a lifeguard or our team if you are unsure.

Natural shade on the sand is limited, so bring sun protection, a hat and plenty of water.
