Phuket Guide
Phuket weather and seasons
Phuket is warm all year, but the seasons shape the sea, the skies and how busy the island feels. Every season has its pleasures. Here is how the year usually unfolds on the west coast, and what that means for your stay in Kamala.
High season
November to April: calm seas and sunny skies.
Hottest
March to May, with temperatures up to around 35°C.
Green season
May to October: lush, quieter and showery.
All year
Warm water and long, bright days.
November to April
The dry season
From November to February the weather is at its most comfortable, typically between 24 and 32°C, with clear skies and gentle sea breezes. The west-coast sea is usually calm and clear: the best time for swimming, snorkelling and boat trips.
March and April stay dry but grow hotter, with temperatures up to around 35°C.
May to October
The green season
The south-west monsoon brings more rain, often in short, heavy showers and occasional thunderstorms. The landscape turns deep green, the gardens are at their most lush and the island is noticeably quieter.
The sea on the west coast can be rough, with strong currents. Always respect the red flags on the beach, and keep boat trips flexible. Fewer visitors mean a calmer island, and prices are often lower.
Planning around the weather
Rainy days, well spent
A wet afternoon is a good excuse to slow down: a long lunch, a massage, a book on your terrace or a visit to the Old Town and its cafés.
Shopping centres such as Central Phuket are air-conditioned and easy to reach, and the team is always happy to suggest ideas for the day.
